Talking with Teens, A Practical Approach to Screening Adolescents

The Arizona Collaborative for Adolescent Health as a program of the American Academy of Pediatrics-AZ Foundation and in partnership with the Arizona Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics has designed a web-based course for health care clinicians and others who work with and serve adolescents. The goal of this session is to promote healthy behaviors, enhance positive youth development and strengthen assets of adolescents through the use of screening tools.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the key characteristics of early, middle and late adolescents
  • Discuss the benefits of using screening tools when working with adolescents
  • Identify at least three(3) techniques to enhance an adolescent friendly environment in their clinic
  • Use the GAPS or HEADSSS screening tool with adolescents in their clinical setting

This activity should take approximately 60 minutes to complete (including online resources provided) After viewing the presentation a certificate of completion will be available to print following completion of the post-evaluation. This session, while not approved for category 1 Credit CME, can still be considered for other category CME and CEU type credits.
